WELCOME MESSAGE

A message from the Board:
Members and volunteers of Historic Hertford, Inc. (HHI) are the key to our success in continuing efforts to revitalize historic Hertford. The beautification of the downtown area benefits all residents of Hertford and Perquimans County.
HHI projects include the flower planters and flags that beautify Church Street and on a sunny NC day we can all enjoy a relaxing moment on the benches and appreciate the trash receptacles that keep us clean and green. Matching grants from HHI encourage enhancement of store facades. In the past, side by side with town officials, HHI provided funds to install historic street lamps and brick sidewalk aprons, the plaza at Church and Market Streets and the changed zoning to increase the downtown business district. These, as well as many other enhancements, could not have been accomplished without the support of HHI. Future plans are to partner with the town as it develops the waterfront for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.
This year's Main Street Champion, Donna Jackson, has worked tirelessly with her committee, the County Commissioners, and a landscape architect to develop a design plan for the Perquimans County Courthouse Green that will enhance this historic gem in our town center.
Your annual membership and support of our events are key to enabling us to continue this important work. Our 2009 events are listed on this website and we look forward to your participation!
Please consider volunteering for HHI as we continue our efforts to make Hertford the best it can be. HHI always has a need for individuals with skills in finance, fundraising, grant writing, publicity and advocacy. There is an area of participation for everyone! Please contact our Membership chairperson and volunteer your services.
Remember -- YOU are the key to our success!
