A message from the Board:
Members and volunteers of HHI are the key to our success in continuing efforts to revitalize historic Hertford. The beautification of the downtown area benefits all residents of Hertford and Perquimans County.
HHI LogoHHI projects include the flower planters and flags that beautify Church Street and on a sunny NC day we can all enjoy are relaxing moment on the benches and appreciate the trash receptacles that keep us clean and green. Matching grants from HHI encourage enhancement of store facades. In the past, side by side with town officials, HHI provided funds to install historic street lamps and brick sidewalk aprons, the plaza at Church and Market Street, and the changed zoning to increase the downtown business district. These, as well as many other enhancements, could not have been accomplished without the support of HHI. Future plans include our partnering with the town as it develops the waterfront for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.
This year’s Main Street Champion is Joan Bielski. Joan works tirelessly to improve Historic Hertford, Inc. and has revamped the way the organization keeps its financial records. She is a member of our Board of Directors and serves as our Treasurer. Joan is also a member of the Organization Committee. She works at every one of our events and helps in any way she can. She has been Secretary for the Indian Summer Festival, HHI’s largest annual event, and also took minutes at the initial meetings of our town’s STEP program. She attends Main street conferences to keep HHI up to date with Main Street programs and opportunities. As our Chair says, she pays our bills on time and gets our checks to us when we need them . She helps with our grant writing, and even finds time to tutor the Chamber of Commerce Director in QuickBooks! Joan is not only our finance guru, but she bakes great lemon bars! Historic Hertford is extremely proud and thankful of Joan’s work and her nomination as our 2012 Main Street Champion.
Your annual membership and support of our events are key to enabling us to continue this important work. Our 2014 events are outlined on the Events page and we look forward to your participation!
